Where are you from?
I grew up spending my school years in California and summers in Minnesota until college at the University of Minnesota. Go Gophers!!!! So I’ve always considered myself a California-Minnesotan. Even after moving away I would still go “home” to our Minnesota house…something about that fresh lake air that just resets the senses and is so relaxing.
What is something about yourself that we might not know?
I graduated college with a degree in Kinesiology and Coaching and was a Certified Athletic Trainer before I joined the Air Force. On my second deployment I suffered a Neurotoxic Brain Injury and have since been Medically Retired from service. I now compete in adaptive sports and work with the wounded warrior programs.
How long have you been a Savage Girl and why did you join?
I have been a Savage Girl for 7 years (since 2011). I was on my first deployment and found the MTV video on youtube and was sold on fitness. At the time I joined with goals of competing but then it became my support network and has helped me through the recovery of my injury on my second deployment.
What advice would you give to someone just getting started with Cathy Savage Fitness?
Try and enjoy the “now”. You sign up with big goals and a list of things you want to change, but can easily miss out on precious moments of your journey. Take pictures, write detailed check-ins, confide in your coach and share life details, smile, know there is no victory too small to celebrate, use your teammates, and enjoy life!
